Read Around The Planet 2008

Read Around the Planet - March 2008
Looking for an American school as a videoconference partner? Read around the Planet can match you with a US school, initially for a reading based activity in March 2008 but with the potential for a long term partnership to be formed.

See the link below…

TWICE invites you to participate in a celebration of reading using video conference technology!

TWICE provides a matching service for point-to-point videoconferences between schools. Teacher matching is done based on your registration information. Participating schools are responsible for making the connections work successfully.

Dave! Glad to see you promoting this. However, registration closed on January 16.

Because the project is so huge and complicated to make happen, there is a bit of a process to participate.

It starts with verification which opens in November each year and runs through early January. This is just a test call and records how you connect so we can make matches accordingly. You could actually have your schools start this process now if they want to get logged into CAPspace and enter equipment details etc.

Then December 1 teacher registration opens and teachers can pick their dates & times. Most participating UK schools pick afternoons only so they get matched with US/Canada schools due to the time zone.

Registration closes mid January, and it usually takes another 2-3 weeks for us to finalize the matches and send out the partner details.

So.... for this year you're out of luck for an official match. But you can use the idea to do projects with partners you already know.

You can also encourage your school level videoconference coordinators to get their accounts set up in CAPspace - http://projects.twice.cc so they'll be ready in the future.

Hope this helps.

Dave:

Although the "official" registration is closed- there are plenty of schools/districts that connect on their own (such as MINE!) I have 23,000 students and only one of me- so I try to connect schools where I can stay in one place for several connections- and cycyle students in and out all day. If you are interested in "unofficial" connections- I may be able to help you out still!
